Situated in the charming Yorkshire village of Hardraw, beneath the rising tops of Great Shunner Fell, The Green Dragon Inn stands in a stunning location overlooking Upper Wensleydale.
We are centrally located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, just outside of Hawes, an ideal location for touring, cycling and walking, not to mention we’re positioned directly on one of the most popular of all the walks: The Pennine Way.
The 13th Century Inn has been carefully restored over the many years, ensuring it has maintained many of its original features whilst incorporating some contemporary fittings for better comfort. This ancient traditional Dales Inn features flagged stone floors, open fires, beamed ceilings, and stone walls.
Above the Inn we have our two luxurious 16th century suites available, the Wordsworth and Turner. Their names represent another fantastic link to the history of the beautiful inn, when Turner supposedly stayed while painting the Hardraw Force Waterfall, and Wordsworth refers to his stay in a letter to Coleridge in 1799. We also offer a variety of seven modern en-suite bedrooms, ranging from twins and doubles to family rooms.
For those on a budget, we have bunk rooms located behind the Inn sleeping between two and eight people – with separate male and female showers as well as facilities along with a small, basic, snack kitchen.
Come and enjoy the beauty of the Green Dragon Inn and then relax with excellent home cooked food, real ales, and a warm atmosphere.
The pub itself offers a good range of locally brewed Cask ales from the better-known Theakston and Timothy Taylors range to the smaller, local micro-breweries such as Yorkshire Dales. There is also a variety of Premium lagers available on draught with the usual choice of spirits, soft drinks and bottled beers.
And if you’re looking for something a little special, why not ask one of our bartenders to mix you up a cocktail.
Authentic furnishings within the pub help create a cosy atmosphere for our guests to relax and sit back in front of our real log and coal fire to enjoy your drink.
Well behaved dogs are welcome in the bar along with well behaved owners.
The Hardraw Scaur Waterfall is England's highest single drop water fall. The Inn's extensive 15-acre grounds continue along Hardraw Beck taking in the spectacular narrow gorge of Hardraw Scaur.
Around these pleasant paths, wind through ancient woodland, crossing the Beck over oak footbridges. At the head of the gorge is the impressive Hardraw Force, best seen after heavy rain, dropping 100 feet from an overhanging ledge.
The Waterfall is open daily, and now operates as a separate business to the pub, with access granted through the Heritage centre located at the back of the pub car park. For more information on opening times and prices please visit the Hardraw Force Waterfall website.
All camping enquiries are now dealt with by the Heritage Centre along with the Waterfall access and cannot be answered by The Green Dragon pub and contact details can also be found at the Hardraw Force Waterfall website.
